Today in Western Civ, we continued to take notes on ancient Rome. We learned that Rome was originally a monarchy, but there monarchy was overthrown and they established a republic. So, each year two senates were elected to serve, so one could keep an eye on the other, making sure they didn't get too powerful. Eventually, the Plebeians gained power in the senate by electing their own magistrates, called tribunes. The laws of Rome were codified and written into the Twelve Tablets. Mr. Schick rapped to us about Rome today and it was a very interesting experience.
